Massage Services

Therapeutic massage is the type of massage provided the most. It involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body in order to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress. A variety of techniques including Swedish massage, deep tissue, trigger point release, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy and hydrotherapy will be used to assist with Swedish techniques being used most often. It is important to communicate with your therapist during the treatment as some techniques used may cause a little discomfort. Any lasting discomfort post-treatment should be discussed with your therapist. A brief assessment will be done at the start of your session and home care will be given at the end.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, including skin, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia. It is the primary massage technique learned by RMT’s in Ontario. The technique uses moderate to deep pressure and is most often performed with oil or lotion. A combination of kneading, gliding and direct pressure techniques are used to help the soft tissues. Swedish massage techniques can be used for either therapeutic reasons or for relaxation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It will use some of the same techniques as with Swedish Massage but they are modified by being performed slower and with deeper pressure to concentrate on the areas of tension and pain.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST)

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle osteopathic technique that involves the mobilization of the bones of the cranium (skull and face), the sacrum (tailbone), the dural membrane, the deep layers of connective tissue, and cerebral spinal fluid (protects brain and spinal cord). The body is assessed for restrictions or imbalances in movement in these areas and the therapist uses light touch to allow the body to self-correct and restore balance. This can help relieve pain and increase mobility.

Craniosacral Therapy can be an effective treatment for concussions, headaches/migraines, chronic pain, anxiety, sensory, motor or neurological disorders (including autism), post traumatic stress, PMS, jaw pain and more.

Craniosacral Therapy for Infants and Children

Craniosacral Therapy is great for infants and children. It is often used for infants who have issues with feeding, torticollis, plagiocephaly, gas or colic to name a few. And, with children who have Autism, ADHD, ADD and anxiety. Some parents bring their children in for general well-being sessions to help support their growing bodies.

Craniosacral Therapy for Conception, Pregnancy and Childbirth

Craniosacral Therapy is a benefit during pregnancy as it helps reduce restrictions throughout the craniosacral system but most importantly the pelvis. It can help ease back pain, make more room for the baby and to help with connecting to the baby. It can also help ease labour pain, decrease the use of epidural, decrease the chance of needing an episiotomy and may help get labour started.

After a baby is born, Craniosacral Therapy can assist with latching/breastfeeding problems, molding of the head, flushing of any medications/epidural from mom and baby and releasing any restrictions that may be present from vacuum/forceps assisted delivery and caesarean birth to name a few.

Somato-Emotional Release (SER)

Somato-Emotional Release is a component of Craniosacral Therapy. Often the body will hold onto emotions that are linked to physical trauma. The emotions stored can be the result of an injury, illness, traumatic incident or a life process and can often leave residues, restrictions and pain in the tissues of the body. During an SER treatment, the therapist incorporates dialoguing techniques combined with gentle manual techniques to help guide the client to release these restrictions/emotions. As they are released, the body is then free to return to its optimal state. Note that the body will only work on what it wants to work on and that the client does not need to analyze the problem for it to be released.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a relaxing form of massage therapy that focuses on the head, face, neck, shoulders, upper back and upper arms. It has a balancing effect on the client as it helps to reduce tension and stress. It is a great form of treatment for headaches, jaw pain and stress relief.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is beneficial for mothers and baby to receive both before and after the baby is born. Prenatal massage addresses the specific changes of pregnant women as well as discomfort in the lower back, abdomen, shoulders, feet, and legs. Advice on exercises and stretches to help during pregnancy can be given. Craniosacral Therapy is also of benefit for mom and baby during the pregnancy and after the baby is born (see Craniosacral Therapy section for more information). Labour support is also available – please see the Labour Support section above for more information.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage is performed by using heated basalt stones combined with Swedish massage techniques to help loosen muscle, relieve stiffness and soreness and promote relaxation. The heated stones are used as a tool in combination with light massage or with deeper massage techniques depending on the client’s comfort.

There is an extra $15 charge on the treatment price.

Aquatic Massage Therapy

Aquatic Massage therapy is a good form of treatment for those who have decreased mobility, those who have been involved in Motor Vehicle Accidents, those who have Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Developmental Delays to name a few. During a session, the client will be guided through a series of exercises that are specific for that person’s needs as well as receiving massage therapy to specific muscles to help promote an increase in range of motion as well as relaxation.

The session takes place at a pool close to the client’s home or of their choice – usually public pools. Depending on the client, sometimes it is of more benefit to go to a warmer pool or a pool that is wheel chair accessible. The client pays for their pool fee (as do I) and we meet on deck, changed and ready to start.

Sessions last 45 minutes in length and the fee is $80 (HST included). Please call or email to book this type of session.
